Bill Jacklin

Bill Jacklin was born in London in 1943 and studied at the Royal College of Art. Initially concerned with abstraction, his work moved to figuration in the mid 1970s, when it became preoccupied with the effects of light and movement.

Moving to New York in 1985 where he still lives, he has concentrated on painting 'Urban Portraits' of 'the city' becoming known as the artist par excellence of modern-day New York. His work has tapped the conflicting pulse of the city, which struck him with force on his first arrival in America.

His work is collected internationally and in 1991 was elected a Royal Academician. Printmaking has always been an important part of his artistic output, and this exhibition, courtesy of Marlborough Graphics, London, features many recent monoprints and etchings, a number of which have never previously been exhibited.
