Hermon Shapiro was born in
London. He studied at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts
1949 - 54 and was associated with the acclaimed "Camberwell
Group". He went on to lecture at Cardiff College of Art.
He
has shown at this gallery since it opened in 1962. At that
time he was already an established artist and since 1957 had
been exhibiting widely throughout the UK.
His work has been
purchased by the National Museum of Wales and may be found
in many public collections. His recent paintings and sculpture
represent work on two themes, the female figure within the
enclosed domestic environment and the open figureless landscape.
The paintings demonstrate the artist's response to the subjects
observed, assimilated and expressed in a personal creative
manner.
