The semi-abstract lower section of the painting is synonymous with the representational upper half. Robert endeavours to combine what is portrayed in the upper section, with a reconstruction of the same subject below. The lower section is intended to capture the essence in a simplified form. The subtle use of textured layers of paint helps to merge the two picture planes into a single coherent design. |

“Whatever the subject, I try to analyse the structure, whether it is natural or man made, real or imaginary, obvious or discreet. The geometric abstract framework present in my work is arrived at from my imagination. It reflects the anatomy of the subject and I use this to create a new unified structure. |

I use fast drying alkyd oil paint, applied with a palette knife over a textured surface, often using various implements to obtain a multi-layered effect.” |
