20th November - 24th December 1999

CHRISTMAS MIXED EXHIBITION.

For our last exhibition of 1999 we have asked each of our artists for two or three pieces of new work. Over 40 established and emerging artists will be providing an exciting mix of paintings, graphics, sculpture and ceramics.

As more work will be received than can be displayed at any one time, purchases can be taken away the same day. The show will therefore be continually changing.

We would like to thank our customers who continue to support the gallery and who have helped make this year a successful one for both ourselves and the artists we represent.

23rd October to 13th November.

RICHARD OLIVER

r_oliver_a_thumb.gif (14780 bytes)South Wales artist Richard Oliver was born near Pontypridd in Mid-Glamorgan, and graduated in Fine Art at the University of the West of England in Bristol in 1997.

He has been described as a breath of fresh air in the Welsh Arts scene, the visual arts equivalent of the Manic Street Preachers or the Stereophonics, painting the daily theatre of South Wales valleys life. "The language I have chosen to develop takes the form of exaggerated figures, heightening the expression. I also use cartoon-like imagery because this style is universal and recognised by people outside the art world."

r_oliver_b_thumb.gif (19520 bytes)Already he has received a number of prizes for his work and several commissions including a mural at the Rhondda Heritage Centre.

"His paintings are inspired by South Wales valley life where people have been struggling to deal with the demise of the coal mining industry and the consequential effect on the communities. Since graduating he has held a number of solo shows and won several prizes. The work of this young contemporary artist has been attracting attention and praise from both within and beyond Wales."
