This year the gallery has a full programme with single artist, two artist and mixed shows. These exhibitions feature both established artists and young emerging artists. As the year progresses we will continue to update this section and provide more information on each exhibition. We have kept details of previous years exhibitions as a useful source of information on the artists and their work.

Mixed Exhibition - Gallery Artists

Most of the artists this gallery represents have work on display in this mixed exhibition of paintings, graphics and sculpture. The gallery represents over fifty artists, and many live and work in Wales. This is an opportunity to see the range and quality of work that is available at the gallery.

24th March - 21st April

Will Roberts - A Tribute

The death last year of Will Roberts at the age of 92 robbed Wales of one of its foremost painters of the 20th Century. Now, one year after his death, Attic Gallery is holding a retrospective exhibition to commemorate his life and work and to mark the long association with our gallery. He was one of the founder artists and contributed ten paintings to the opening exhibition in 1962. The current exhibition is of work that the family has kindly allowed us to select from his studio and from their own collection. These eighty paintings and drawings, which are for sale, cover most of his career and include some of his last work.

This is an exhibition by two artists of contrasting styles. Donald McIntyre is an established artist based in North Wales. He spends much of his year exploring and painting the coastline of Britain, particularly his beloved West Coast of Scotland. Emma MacCallum is an exciting young contemporary South Wales based artist. Her interest is in the figure, particularly the face, and she shares with McIntyre not just the love of paint but the apparently effortless ability to express herself through that medium.

June 2nd - June 23rd

Richard Oliver and Paul Woodford

Richard Oliver is one of the most exciting young artists on the Welsh art scene today. His use of cartoon-like imagery with subtly distorted perspective gives his characters a larger than life feel. His intention is to directly engage the viewer. Behind the work is a sensitive and very talented painter.
Paul Woodford is a contemporary landscape artist. His art expresses not only his appreciation of the landscape but his concern for it. A new artist to this gallery but he has widely exhibited across the UK. He is currently living and working in South Wales.

30th June - 15th September

The gallery represents over 50 artists. Each artist has been invited to provide new work for our summer mixed exhibition of paintings, prints, sculpture and ceramics. This is an excellent time to visit us to see the range and quality of the work at the gallery. It is a rotating show and artists will be bringing in new work throughout the show so there will always be something new to see. As part of the Summer Show there will be an exhibition of paintings by Elizabeth Thomas in Room 1 from the 5th of September.

Sarah Hopkins and Hermon Shapiro

This is a major exhibition of new work from a talented Swansea artist. Sarah Hopkins is already well known for her series of screenprints of the local townscape. This exhibition sees a major development in her work as she uses her skills both as a printmaker and a painter to descibe a journey from the gritty urban centre of Swansea to her Gower home in the U.K.'s first designated "Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty".

Hermon Shapiro studied at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts 1949 - 54 and was a member of the acclaimed "Camberwell Group". He sees the female form as being closely related to the organic landscape and these two elements have been a constant provider to his work. His paintings and sculpture can be seen in Room 1
.

20th October - 10th November

Vivienne Williams

Vivienne Williams was born in Swansea and gained her MA at Reading University in 1978. She then travelled widely through Europe, Asia and Australia. In 1991 she returned to Swansea to paint full time and numerous successful solo and mixed shows have followed. She describes the making of her pictures, as a struggle followed by a calm resolution, when she has the feeling that the picture has painted itself. The artist's vibrant, colourful paintings are widely collected across Wales and beyond and this solo show sees her continuing to explore the themes of flowers and still life.

17th November - 24th December
