Paul Vyse studied at Canterbury College of Art obtaining a BA (Hons) in Graphic Design. His career to date has been as a graphic designer and illustrator, working for a number of leading companies. For a number of years he was the Art Editor for ‘What’s On TV’ , IPC Media, one of the UK’s best selling magazines. He left to become a free-lance graphic designer and to allow him to concentrate more on his painting.
“I've always drawn and painted – done lots of published illustration work – but only in the last couple of years have started painting on canvas properly, something I've always wanted to do, but it took a painting holiday in France to overcome 'the fear'! My work tends to be inspired by life around me – people caught unawares, or in relation to their surroundings... kind of 'reportage' painting, I guess.”
The Attic Gallery Summer Group Show 2010 was the first time he had exhibited his paintings in a gallery setting, although he had previously completed commissions for individual customers. He is now regularly exhibiting his paintings in solo and group shows here and in London.
