Gareth Thomas
Gareth Thomas is one of the
most popular artists in Wales and his work is widely collected.
The artist was born in Swansea
in 1955 and attended Trinity College, Carmarthen. In 1979
he decided to paint full time and the earlier part of his
career was devoted to working in Wales.

He first made his reputation as a watercolour artist, painting
mostly outdoors to capture the constantly changing light
and the mood of the landscape. Much of his appeal was derived
from his use of water-colour to create an atmospheric sense
of place.
His paintings of the South
Wales coastline and especially of Gower, where he lives,
are still much in demand. The ever-changing light and moods
of this landscape continuing to offer fresh challenges.
He is however always looking to develop his painting. For
some years Provence and Venice have ignited his imagination
and pushed him towards a more interpretative use of paint
and work from recent visits is included in this exhibition.

As well as water-colour he
now also works in oil, acrylic and pastel, each medium offering
fresh challenges and a new means to express his response
to colour and light.

This one-man show will see
a new development in the artist's work. Gareth Thomas will
be exhibiting his still life paintings for the first time.
