Louise Edwards

Louise Edwards

Louise was born in the Rhondda, brought up in Bridgend and now lives in Llangollen, North Wales. A self-taught painter, she paints intuitively using both brush and pallete knife and using both left and right hands, reacting to mark-making. Texture is an important part of the painting process for Louise, both from the pure pleasure of painting in an impasto style and also for the trail that it leaves behind for observers to engage in the painting process itself by clearly visible brush, pallet knife or finger marks. “My portraits are painted from my imagination but evolve fairly rapidly and intuitively from general mark making. I try to capture humanity and once a painting starts to look back at me, I seize upon it”. Louise has exhibited at the Royal Cambrian Academy of Art (2018 (selectors award winner), 2019, 2020), MOMA Machynlleth (2018), Oriel Brondanw (2018, 2020) Llangollen Museum (2017, 2018) the Carriageworks, Denbigh (2018), Ty Pawb, Wrexham (2020), North Wales Open, Theatre Clwyd (2019), Oriel Mostyn (2019), Ectarc Centre, Llangollen (2020), Llangollen Pavillion (2019)
