Therese James

Therese James,

artist and writer, was born in 1959 and has spent most of her life in her home town Llanelli, South Wales, a post industrial town alongside the Burry Estuary that has changed greatly since her youth.

Her work, she says, can best be described by the Welsh words, ‘Hwyl’ and Hiraeth. ‘Hwyl’ being an inner passion one would feel for something that stirs your soul and ‘Hiraeth’ which loosely translated means a longing for home. This longing keeps her coming back to the places as they  once were.

Self-taught but with a tremendous self discipline, Therese James has worked daily to create her own unique style and visual vocabulary.
